Last week was World Book Day. To celebrate we all came to school in our pyjamas. We also brought our favourite book in to school to share with the rest of the class. In Year 1 we love reading!
Last week reception and Year 1’s ducklings started to hatch. We have three ducklings and they are spending the week in Year 1 classroom. We really enjoyed watching them exercise today, they seemed very happy playing in the water!
Year 1 had a great opportunity to practise their tennis skills this afternoon with coaches from Bellingham tennis club. We played lots of different games in pairs with a racket and a ball. As you can see from the photographs we had so much fun!
This week in Year one we are measuring length and height. Today we had to use the words longer and shorter. We had to find objects in the classroom that were longer or shorter than a ruler.
Today we had some visitors in our classroom. They talked to us about Chinese New Year. We found out how and why people celebrate Chinese New Year. Then we had lots of fun learning a song and a dance.
This week Year 1 are exploring addition and subtraction. Today we have been using the ten frames and counters to work out the missing numbers in the sums.
Today we learned all about how archaeologists found dinosaur bones and fossils. We learned that this is how we know that dinosaurs existed. Year one used pictures of dinosaur skeletons and dry pasta to create our own dinosaur skeletons.
In science we have been learning all about animals including humans. Today we talked about parts of the human body. Jacob was our volunteer and we took turns labelling the different parts of Jacob’s body.
Today we have been learning about place value. We worked in partners, one of us made a number between 0 and 40 using the number fan. Our partner had to make the number using the tens and ones counters.
